The employee onboarding process is one of the main components
of the HR function in an any organization. This is the process of familiarizing
new employee with the company culture and policies while get to understanding
their new positions & requirements.
According to (Lalwani,
2023), Onboarding begins from the time an offer is made to the
employee until they are a becoming a productive member of the team. With the
findings of (lucidchart, 2024), 22% of companies have no formal onboarding process.
Therefore, its an important topic for
discuss and get into the action in effective way in our industries as well.
Importance & benefits of employee
onboarding process
As the first interaction of an employee with an organization, establishing a proper onboarding process is much comfortable in both sides. A streamlined onboarding process will reduce the workload of HR and helpful to other existing employees as well. According to (Chauncey & Rob, 2023) organizational benefits of an effective onboarding process have been mentioned as below.
- Increase retention
- Increase job satisfaction
- Increase productivity
- Improve understanding of company culture
- Improve understanding of role expectations
- Improve team dynamics
- Decrease wasted investments
Critical Steps of onboarding process
For implement a proper onboarding, its much needed to
identify & go through with the main steps of the process.
- Pre-Boarding Preparation – preparing of required documents such as employee contracts, benefits forms, and schedule introduction sessions.
- Orientation and Welcome – first orientation of introducing company culture, values and future expectations.
- Compliance Training – Awarering about company policies, laws and legal requirements in order with the code of conduct.
- Role-Specific Training and Integration – Collaborations with the departments to get the specified training required for the employee’s job role.
- Initial Performance Evaluation – After the few working days conducting an initial evaluation can be done for identify weather any support is needed.
- Follow-Up and Continuous Support – Continues observing for further improvements and career development in long term success for the organization.
When talking about the onboarding
durations, it may last anything from few days to a year as per the organization’s
behavior, but many HR professionals has recommended to last about 90 days to
feel the employee comfortable in the job, bamboohr
(2023).
Conclusion
As an essential part of the employee lifecycle,
onboarding sets the foundation for long-term productivity and contentment in
the organization as this enable new recruitments to settle into their roles
quickly, form good relationships with coworkers, getting the required job
knowledge and then can be make valuable contributions to the organization's
objectives. But the important thing is to follow a proper strategy which suits
for the organization and stablishing the process in the correct approach. Otherwise,
this will be only a general orientation program and not fully effective from
the both employee & organization point of view.
